The announcement was made on the day after the first official IRB Women’s World Cup final in which Australia were beaten 24-9 by England. The decision, which is being made by a 3-0 panel headed by ARU boss Bill Pulver, follows the conclusion of an evaluation of the operations of the new women’s sevens series. The women’s competition was suspended earlier this year following the failure of the relevant international governing body, the IRB, to release the necessary funds, but will now be reintroduced. The new tournament will feature both sevens and fifteen man teams, and will be named the HSBC Women’s World Rugby Sevens Series, with the decision being taken in relation to the naming of the series in line with the new brand of the men’s competition which is the HSBC Sevens World Series. “There is a strong level of interest from our member unions and all States in staging a women’s sevens tournament,” said Australian Rugby Union CEO, Bill Pulver. “The players are all of an age where they are still growing and have the physical capability to compete in a sevens tournament. “As be359ba680
